Our thumbnail image is a close-up of our new logo featuring Ailsa Craig.

It is from a map published in Amsterdam by Joan Blaeu who honoured Scotland in his Atlas Novus of 1654 by publishing so many maps originally produced by Timothy Post in the late 16th c. At the time of the Atlas being published Scotland was considered the best-mapped country in the world with over 20,000 place-names, many of which are recognisable today.

Ailsa Craig, known locally as ‘The Craig’ gives us the name of our region, Carrick – ‘a rocky place’. The name Carraig was originally Welsh and borrowed into Gaelic. The isle is in Dailly Parish, the only inland Parish with a lighthouse!
